Materials – Stainless Steel
Our reputation of Stainless Steel sheet metal cutting using our state of the art laser cutting or cnc punching machines is based on our versatility and professional service.
Stainless steel is steel alloyed with chromium (minimum 10.5% content) and other elements which produces a good resistance to corrosion in oxidising environments.
Stainless steel’s resistance to atmospheric corrosion is excellent, however in certain atmospheres (e.g. in the presence of chlorides – at the seaside or in salt water) pitting can occur. When exposed to acids the corrosion resistance is similar to mild steel.
- Good corrosion resistance in oxidising environments
- Excellent strength-to-weight ratio
The disadvantages of stainless steel are that it can be expensive and difficult to weld. It can also be more problematic to work with than other metals.
